Looking for a rewarding new opportunity supporting children with additional needs?

Hays Education are working with a number of inclusive and supportive primary schools in the Small Heath (B10) area who are looking to appoint caring, patient and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for the new academic year starting in September 2026.

Your new role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant or 1:1 Support Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to thrive both academically and socially.

Responsibilities may include:

Providing 1:1 support for pupils with SEN

Supporting children with Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, and other additional learning needs

Implementing strategies to support behaviour and engagement

Encouraging independence, confidence and social development

Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and other professionals

Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environmentRoles are available on both a full-time and part-time basis, with long-term opportunities throughout the academic year.

What you'll need to succeed

I am keen to hear from candidates who:

Have experience supporting children with SEN, either in schools or other child-focused settings

Are patient, empathetic and resilient

Have experience working on a 1:1 basis or with small intervention groups

Are confident building positive relationships with pupils and staff

Have a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

Hold a relevant qualification (desirable but not essential)Experience in personal care, behaviour support, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or similar interventions would be advantageous.
