SEMH Teaching Assistant

A welcoming and supportive school in Wolverhamtpon is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. If you're passionate about helping children re-engage with learning, manage emotions, and develop confidence, this could be the role for you.

About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work with pupils across Key Stages 1-4 who may also have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. Your role will be to build positive relationships, support emotional regulation, and encourage academic progress in and out of the classroom. Each day brings something new-whether you're helping to calm a difficult situation, delivering tailored support during lessons, or simply offering a listening ear, your presence will make a real impact.

Responsibilities:

Supporting students with SEMH and related conditions including ASD and ADHD

Encouraging engagement and participation in class-based and individual learning activities

Promoting emotional well-being and helping students develop positive coping strategies

Reinforcing boundaries and supporting behavioural interventions

Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to ensure consistent, child-centred supportWhat We're Looking For:

We're looking for a candidate with resilience, empathy, and a calm, confident approach. Experience working in a school or similar setting is essential, particularly with children who display challenging behaviour. Any training in behaviour management strategies such as Team Teach or MAPA would be an advantage.

You must be able to remain patient under pressure, adapt to the needs of different students, and contribute positively to a strong, supportive team environment.
