SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School | East Finchley

Location: East Finchley, North London

Start Date: ASAP / October 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term

Salary: £95–£110 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Destination Education are looking for enthusiastic and caring SEN Teaching Assistants to join a friendly and inclusive Primary School in East Finchley. These roles are class-based, working across different year groups to support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) — including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

You’ll be part of a collaborative team who believe that every child deserves the right support to succeed. The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and focus on creating a calm, nurturing environment where both pupils and staff can thrive.

Day-to-day, you’ll be working closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons, manage behaviour positively, and provide targeted interventions that build pupils’ confidence, communication, and independence. Each day will bring variety and opportunities to make a genuine difference in a child’s learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support within the classroom

Adapt classroom activities and resources to meet pupils’ individual needs

Encourage participation, engagement, and confidence in all learning activities

Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans)

Use positive behaviour management techniques to maintain a calm learning space

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals (e.g. speech therapists)

Support pupils’ social and emotional development through encouragement and consistencyThe Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working with children with SEN in a school or similar setting

A patient, empathetic, and proactive attitude

Strong communication and teamwork skills

A genuine interest in child development and inclusive education

Relevant training or qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, PECS, or Makaton) are desirable but not essentialWhy Join Destination Education?
