Pastoral Support Tutor
This Pastoral Support Tutor position offers a 14.5 hour per week role on a 39-week Term Time Only basis. The working days for this role are Thursdays (08:30 – 17:00 with an hour lunch) and Fridays (08:30 – 16:30 with an hour lunch). The Pastoral Support Tutor for Art and Design at Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) is responsible for providing accurate information, advice, guidance, and support to students, parents, and staff regarding academic performance, college procedures, and financial welfare matters.
The role involves leading group pastoral and personal development activities tailored to learner needs, alongside providing effective one-to-one tutoring and coaching to support study skills, academic achievement, and overall wellbeing. To achieve this, the tutor directly supports the department's cohort through individual tutorials, group sessions, and assignment support, meeting regularly with assigned students to review their conduct and academic progress. Furthermore, they contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) by setting milestones with students, teachers, and parents, and they generate timely data—including registers, student feedback, and progress reports to identify and monitor learners who are at risk of non-achievement or withdrawal.
Beyond direct student coaching, the role requires daily liaison with teachers, Curriculum Managers, and other college staff to manage student attendance, retention, achievement, and behaviour. The tutor partners with Safeguarding and Learning Support teams to assist with PEP and EHCP meetings, providing extra support to vulnerable students such as Children in Care or those on Child Protection Plans, and they must be prepared to train and act as a safeguarding officer if required.
