Pastoral Support Assistant/Pupil Engagement Assistant

Location: Dorking, Surrey SEN School

Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time only

Salary: Up to £30,000 , dependent on experience

Start Date: September 2025 (or ASAP)

Are you motivated to help young people with autism or SEMH-related needs thrive academically and emotionally? Be part of a new specialist school set in a therapeutic woodland campus within the Surrey Hills.

We are recruiting a Pastoral Support Assistant/Pupil Engagement Assistant to support pupils aged 7-14. In this role, you'll foster school engagement, attendance and behaviour, collaborating with pastoral and teaching teams in a multi-disciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Build positive, trust-based relationships with pupils to enhance engagement, self-confidence and school attendance.

Deliver calm and consistent behavioural support aligned with each pupil's personalised plan and therapeutic goals.

Mentor pupils on emotional awareness and self-regulation through individual and small-group sessions.

Support transitions, break/lunch times, enrichment events, and offsite visits.

Work closely with the Family Liaison and Pastoral teams to monitor attendance, wellbeing, and family engagement.

Contribute to team meetings, behaviour planning, and ongoing strategy refinement.

Help collect and relay feedback on pupil progress to teaching and pastoral teams.

Monitor wellbeing and escalate concerns per safeguarding policy.We Offer:

Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, grade 4/C or higher.

Experience in pastoral support or SEN. Autism, ADHD, SEMH; ongoing training provided.

Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution-focused approach.
