Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (Secondary SEND)

Location: Manchester

Start Date: September 2025

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About Us:

We are a specialist Secondary SEND School in Manchester, supporting predominantly Key Stage 3/4 pupils with autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and challenging behaviours. Our school provides a safe, nurturing, and structured environment designed to meet the unique needs of each child.

The Role:

We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team from September 2025. You will work closely with teachers to support children with complex needs, helping them engage with learning and develop their communication, social, and independence skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with autism, PMLD, and challenging behaviours.

Assist in delivering personalised learning activities tailored to individual needs.

Support communication using tools such as PECS, Makaton, and other augmentative methods.

Help manage behaviour through positive, consistent strategies and de-escalation techniques.

Support pupils’ sensory needs and help create a calm and inclusive learning environment.

Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and families to meet EHCP targets.

Requirements:

Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly autism and PMLD – essential.

A calm, patient, and nurturing approach with resilience to work with challenging behaviour.

Basic knowledge of communication tools and behaviour management strategies preferred.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction from teaching staff.
