Description

Librarian

Full Time | Term Time + Additional Days | September Start

An ambitious secondary school in East London is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised Librarian to lead and develop its library provision from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for reading, literacy, and education to play a central role in supporting students' learning and fostering a culture of reading across the school. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school library as a welcoming, engaging, and inspiring learning environment that promotes a lifelong love of books and learning.

The school has a strong commitment to academic excellence, literacy development, and student achievement. The library plays a key role in supporting these priorities by providing access to high-quality resources, encouraging independent reading, and supporting students with research and study skills.

The successful candidate will:

*

Manage the day-to-day operation of the school library.

*

Promote reading for pleasure and support whole-school literacy initiatives.

*

Develop and maintain an engaging and diverse library collection.

*

Support students in accessing resources for learning and independent study.

*

Organise reading events, author visits, competitions, and enrichment activities.

*

Work collaboratively with teaching staff to support curriculum delivery.

*

Maintain library systems, records, and resources effectively.

*

Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages student engagement.

The ideal candidate will:

*

Have a passion for books, reading, and education.

*

Possess excellent organisational and communication skills.

*

Be proactive, creative, and able to work independently.

*

Have experience working in a library, educational, or customer-facing environment (desirable).

*

Be committed to supporting the academic and personal development of young people.

The school offers:

*

A supportive and welcoming staff team.

*

Enthusiastic students who value learning and reading.

*

Opportunities for professional development.

*

A strong commitment to staff wellbeing.

*

The opportunity to make a significant impact on students' literacy and learning experiences.

*

A positive and inclusive school community with high aspirations for all.

This role would suit an experienced Librarian, Library Assistant seeking progression, or an individual with a strong interest in literacy and education looking to develop their career within a school setting. xjnqpsq
