Functional Skills Tutor

Support Learners with Essential Skills for Life and Education

We're looking for Functional Skills Tutors to work with children and young people across Dorset, helping them develop confidence and competence in English and Maths through personalised 1:1 tuition.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision and benefit from a tailored approach to learning. Some students may be preparing for Functional Skills qualifications, while others may need support rebuilding confidence and closing gaps in their education.

This is a rewarding role for individuals who enjoy helping students make tangible progress and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Requirements

Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, mentoring, learning support, or similar rolesExperience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and/or MathsAbility to adapt sessions to meet individual learning needsExperience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirableStrong communication and interpersonal skillsPatient, reliable, and engaging approachEnhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain oneDriver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within Dorset
