Disability Support Worker – Outstanding Special School in Cosham
Location: Cosham
Salary Scale: £13.80 to £15 per hour
Start: ASAP /September 2025
GSL Education are working with a client school in Cosham. to find a Disability Support Worker to support children with their reading, writing and various learning activities, inside and outside of the classroom. This is a special school for pupils aged 11–16 years with complex learning difficulties.
In this role, you will provide 1:1 support for children with developmental and communication needs. You will assist pupils both in the classroom and during outdoor play, as well as at other times throughout the school day, including lunch. Your support will help them engage in play activities and socialise with their peers, fostering both learning and personal development.

Responsibilities of a Disability Support Worker:
Provide 1:1 support for pupils with challenging behaviour, Autism, SEMH and mental health needs
Help promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and a safe learning space
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to provide consistent, tailored support
Working with children in the classroom setting
Managing challenging behaviour
Working with students one-to-one and small groups
Requirements for Disability Support Worker:
Has experience working with young people, this could be as a Sports Coach, Dance Leader, Scout Leader or something similar (preferred, not essential).
Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with autism or social and emotional needs (preferred, not essential).
Experience working with SEN (in school, care, or voluntary settings) preferred, not essential
Can engage children in and out of the classroom
Feels confident managing challenging behaviour
Knowledge of and experience with behaviour management strategies.
Commitment to ongoing professional development in SEN practices and strategies.

Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
