Caretaker – Full-Time, Permanent

Location: [Local Area, e.g. Plymouth or leave blank if not required]

Salary: Grade 3–5, Points 3–8 (£24,796 – £26,824 per annum, 37 hours per week)

Hours: Shift patterns between 7:00am and 9:00pm (7 days per week, with two days off as per rota – includes working 1 in 3 weekends)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

About the Role

Hire Grade are recruiting on behalf of one of our valued clients for a Caretaker to support the smooth running of a school site.

This is a key, full-time position responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment for staff, pupils, and visitors. The successful candidate will take pride in their work, enjoy hands-on tasks, and play an important role in the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out general maintenance and basic repairs across the site

Ensure buildings and grounds are kept clean, safe, and well maintained

*

Open and close the premises, maintaining site security

*

Assist with deliveries, furniture movement, and event setup

*

Monitor heating, lighting, and alarm systems

*

Conduct routine health & safety and site checks

*

Liaise with contractors and report maintenance issues

*

Support the site team with cleaning, waste management, and related duties

Person Specification

*

Full UK Driving Licence (essential)

*

Previous experience in a caretaking, site management, or maintenance role (preferred but not essential)

*

Practical maintenance skills with a proactive attitude

*

Good communication and teamwork abilities

*

Reliable, flexible, and willing to work shifts including some weekends

*

This role will be subject to a enhanced DBS check.
