BEHAVIOUR MENTOR | BARKING AND DAGENHAM, REDBRIDGE AND ROMFORD

School-based role supporting behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation

Are you calm under pressure, confident in difficult conversations, and motivated by helping young people re engage with school? We’re working with schools across Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Romford who are seeking Behaviour Mentors to support pupils who need consistency, structure and positive role models to succeed.

This role goes beyond supervision. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students whose behaviour is impacting their learning, providing targeted support to help them regulate emotions, rebuild routines and re engage in education.

What the role involves

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be expected to

• Work 1 to 1 and in small groups with pupils displaying challenging behaviour

• Support emotional regulation, resilience and positive decision making

• Implement behaviour plans and strategies set by the school or SEN team

• De escalate situations calmly and professionally

• Support pupils during transitions, lessons and unstructured times

• Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries

• Record behaviour, progress and key observations accurately

• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff

This is a role for people who can remain composed, consistent and firm while being supportive and empathetic.

Who this role suits

This role is particularly well suited to people with experience in

• Youth work or mentoring

• Care, support work or residential settings

• Sports coaching or leadership roles

• Behaviour focused roles or alternative provision

• Education support roles or aspiring teachers

Strong communication skills, emotional resilience and confidence are essential.

Requirements

Experience working with children or young people in any setting

A calm, consistent and assertive communication style

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply

Reliability, professionalism and emotional resilience
