We are currently seeking a committed and enthusiastic ASD Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive educational setting. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of pupils by helping them build confidence, independence, communication skills, and positive learning experiences every day.

The successful candidate will work closely with students with ASD who may also present with associated needs such as speech and language difficulties, sensory processing needs, anxiety, or social and emotional challenges.

About the Role

As an ASD Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create a structured, nurturing, and engaging environment where pupils feel safe, understood, and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

You may provide support on a 1:1 basis or work with small groups of students, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs and using autism–friendly approaches to encourage participation and progress.

The role requires someone who is calm under pressure, proactive, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.

Key Responsibilities

Support students with ASD in accessing learning activities and the wider curriculum Provide 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual learning needs Encourage communication, engagement, and positive social interaction Assist students with emotional regulation and sensory needs using appropriate strategies Implement behaviour support plans and promote positive behaviour management techniques Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment Adapt resources and activities to support different learning styles and abilities Support students during break times, educational visits, and enrichment activities where required Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff Promote independence, self–esteem, and confidence in all learners The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Experience working with children or young people with ASD, SEND, or additional learning needs (school–based or transferable experience) A calm, patient, and compassionate nature Strong communication and interpersonal skills An understanding of autism and strategies that support communication and behaviour The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students Good teamwork skills and a willingness to learn Flexibility, resilience, and a proactive attitude A genuine passion for supporting children and young people to succeed Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:

SEND schools or mainstream school support Youth work or mentoring Mental health support Psychology or education–based studies However, full training and ongoing support will be provided for candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, passion, and commitment.
