It's genuinely in very good condition. It has lived in our home office and had light, gentle use, so the frame is solid, the cushions are still plump and supportive, the leather is still lovely and soft, and every stud is still tight. There are no tears, cracks or splits anywhere. We have looked after it properly: conditioned with the recommended leather cream every three months and vacuumed weekly, so there is no grime or debris in the seams or corners. Honestly the conditioning isn't essential with this leather, we just wanted to take proper care of something we loved.
In the interest of full honesty:
the seats that get used most have developed some darkening and patina. That is the only place the colour has shifted at all, the rest is as rich as the day it arrived. There are also a few natural marks on the middle backrest and on one of the seat cushions. These are not damage: they came from the hide itself during the dyeing and tanning process and have simply deepened in tone over time. Saxon's own care notes describe these hallmarks as a testament to the natural origin of the leather rather than a fault, and on a semi-aniline pull-up hide like this one they are a large part of its character. Any marks and the patina are all shown clearly in the photos, so you can see exactly what you are getting before you buy.
I won't pretend it looks like it has just come out of the workshop, but it has genuinely had very little use and it presents beautifully in person. This is a young sofa with plenty of life left in it, and a proper handmade Chesterfield like this will keep developing character for a lifetime.
The colour is the real charm of it. Old English Buckskin is a warm, mellow tan, the kind of shade that gives a room instant character and works just as well in a period home as it does softening a modern space.
I am only selling because we are in a small flat and want to reclaim the room for a home gym. I would happily have kept it otherwise.

Please measure your doorways and access before purchasing, as this is a substantial, solidly built sofa.
Collection only from Edinburgh (EH14). You will need a couple of people and a suitable vehicle to move it. Happy to help load on the day.

Smaller scroll arms set the Ellington apart from its contemporaries, which is particularly useful when space is an issue. It also benefits from a high deep buttoned back and arms, providing a more immersive experience to the sit. Consistent with the Chesterfield style, the sofa retains the double buttoned border and hand-tacked studded detail to the arm facings.
Made on high quality semi-aniline hides, tanned to give a pleasing distressed, antique finish. Extra fatliquors are applied during tanning to give the leather a slightly oily, waxy feel and to allow the natural variations of the hide to show through the finish. Every piece of leather is unique, hallmarked with its own character: growth lines, shade variations and grain texture that are a testament to the natural origin of the hide.
