About the Client/Child: Ella is 21 years old and a charismatic, happy and caring young woman with a real love for walking, adventure and theme parks. She is very sociable and enjoys being out and about, meeting people and keeping busy. Ella has Autism Spectrum Condition and Epilepsy, which developed in recent years and is currently well managed with daily medication. She is physically very able and communicates using facial expressions and a few words.
At times, particularly pre-menstrual, Ella can become agitated or dysregulated, which may include biting her hands or banging her head. Loud noises are a common trigger. During these moments, Ella responds best to calm reassurance, low demands and gentle distraction, and episodes are usually short-lived. Ella attends a specialist college in Dorset and receives weekend and school holiday support at the family home in Bourne End.
The Role at a Glance: This role focuses on supporting Ella to build independence and self-help skills while planning fun, engaging activities and trips during weekends and school holidays. Ella has many interests, so there will be plenty to plan and enjoy together. You’ll encourage and motivate her, helping her develop confidence and independence.
The role also includes supporting Ella with personal care, meal preparation and light household tasks, particularly during school holidays. There are a minimum of two weekend shifts per month, with rotas planned 12 weeks in advance. Overnight accommodation can be provided if you wish to stay over while on shift. Ella is in her final year of college, and the family will be exploring residential options from September 2026. The contract will run until at least September 2026, with the possibility of extending to December 2026 if Ella returns for an additional college term.
This Job Would Suit: An energetic, positive and confident *female Support Worker with experience supporting a young adult with autism. You’ll be a driver, enjoy being active and outdoors, and be happy to support Ella to make the most of her weekends and holidays.
