About Helen: Helen (14) is a sociable, smiley and affectionate young lady who enjoys cinema trips, country walks, swimming/hydrotherapy, baking, Disney, Barbie, arts and crafts with her younger brothers, and anything beauty-related—she loves a pamper session! Helen has cerebral palsy and developmental delay and requires full support with her care needs. She is a wheelchair user; the home is fully adapted with hoists throughout. She receives a blended diet via PEG. Her epilepsy is well managed, though seizures still occur. Helen may experience panic attacks and benefits from calm reassurance. She communicates choices through eye-pointing, facial expression and vocalisations.
Role Overview: You’ll support Helen across all areas of daily living, including personal care and healthcare tasks. During term time, you will help with school runs—either driving the WAV or travelling with her. After school, weekends and holidays involve implementing therapies, planning engaging activities and ensuring each day is enjoyable and stimulating. Support may be 1:1 or 2:1 with another team member or parent. You may occasionally supervise Helen’s younger brothers (11 and 6) if parents need to focus on her care. The family would also welcome a support worker able to join short UK or overseas family trips.
The role averages 39.23 hours per week, including two weekend days per month. Rota patterns: • Term time: 7:00–10:00am + 2:30–7:00pm • School holidays: Alternating weeks of 10:00am–5:00/6:00pm full days or split shifts (7:00–10:00am + 2:30–7:00pm) • Weekends: 8:00am–6:00pm (A sample rota is available.)
Who This Role Would Suit: A reliable, nurturing and sociable female support worker who enjoys getting involved in family life. Someone who will embrace fun activities with Helen—including pampering, crafts, and days out—and who is confident providing personal care. While disability experience is desirable, this role is also well suited to someone from a childcare background who is enthusiastic and willing to learn. Clear spoken English is essential to support Helen’s communication.
Why You’ll Love This Role: You’ll join a warm, friendly family and support a delightful young lady. Excellent training is provided, including moving and handling, medication, first aid and PEG-feeding.
Recruitment Process: Managed through Snap Care’s Shortlist Service. We review all applications and forward suitable candidates to the client/case manager. By applying, you consent to your details being shared with our client. Please note: Sponsorship cannot be offered for any of our vacancies. If a specific gender is required, this is a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
