ONLINE LESSONS - Hello, I'm Matthew, a musician and educator based in the North West of England.

My journey in music began at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where I immersed myself in a diverse range of musical experiences and earned a First-Class BA (Hons) degree. I continued my studies at the University of Salford, where I achieved a Master's in Composition with Distinction. Throughout my academic pursuits, I had the privilege of being mentored by industry luminaries like Dean Masser, Steve Berry, Paul Mitchel Davidson, and Mike Smith. Their invaluable guidance not only honed my musical skills but also shaped my teaching philosophy.

Drawing from my rich educational background and experiences, I've developed a teaching approach that places a strong emphasis on nurturing creativity and refining technical skills. From high school and college classrooms and tutoring university students I've had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge and passion for music with students of all ages and backgrounds guiding them through the intricacies of playing instruments music theory and composition.

My ultimate goal as an educator is to empower students to explore the boundless possibilities of music and to express themselves authentically through their artistic endeavors. I firmly believe in creating a supportive and stimulating learning environment where students feel encouraged to develop their unique musical voice. Through personalized guidance and support, I strive to inspire my students to discover their potential and get playing and writing and just have fun with music.

Matthew is a brilliant tutour, he is very patient and has heaps of tips and tricks to help you out along the way! I’ve made a lot of progress with my flute and have Matthew to thank for it :)

The most inspiring and patient teacher ever. Makes everything fun and is so positive ! Explains theory well and manages to answer all my questions. There are many. Makes playing so enjoyable and i look forward to my weekly lessons. A really cool guy a d i recommend him as a teacher

Matt is an exceptional teacher. He is patient and takes tine to understand how best to support you. He is very professional and made a massive improvement to understanding my instrument, reading music and how to practice. I highly recommend him.

Matt is a brilliant saxophone tutor. He is very adaptable to what you want to play, this could be working towards a grading or just playing music you like. He provides great guidance and will demonstrate pieces when required. He is out going during the sessions and responsive to messages. I would definitely recommend him.

My 14 year old Daughter has been taking Alto Saxophone lessons with Matthew for approximately 2 years now. Her musical ability and the knowledge of her instrument is testament to both their commitment, but primarily to Matthew's teaching style, which is very nurturing, clear and concise. He presents the techniques and knowledge of the instrument in such a way it is easy to understand. I can honestly say my daughter always looks forward to her lessons to reinforce her ability and to further improve her knowledge of the instrument. He is super friendly, reliable and communicates very well to ensure we understand what every lesson entails, and the rate of progress on my daughters musical journey. She plays fantastically considering she could not play at all until we started lessons with Matthew. I would have no hesitation in recommending Matthew to anyone who wants to learn, or further improve their musicality, or ability on the saxophone.
