This Rover 14 was first registered on 18th May 1946. With a straight 6-cylinder engine of 1939cc and 4-speed manual gearbox, this car was sold as a high-quality sports saloon after the War. It has had titled ownership (Sir John Mellor and then his wife, Lady Mellor), which is an indication of how these Rovers were perceived, and the monogram survives today on the vehicle's front doors albeit somewhat faded. Its recorded milage is 81,947. EUE 919 is the original registration number.
The important factor about this Rover 14 is that it survives in totally original condition. It is an 'oily rag' car but its patina is charming. It has never had any restoration work or welding. The interior and exterior with blemishes of use over nearly 80 years are a throw-back to a different era where quality of engineering and finish were the order of the day.
Our vendor purchased the Rover at the British Car Auctions' Blackbushe auction on Monday 7th October 2002 (a copy of the auction catalogue is within the car's history). He was very keen to purchase a car with family history.
EUE 919 belonged to his uncle who owned the car for 21 years but had known the car for a considerably longer period as he used to service the car for the previous owner. Being a top mechanic, as well as garage owner, the Rover was impeccably maintained by his uncle but always with the intention of retaining its originality.
