A delightful, early 20/25 with traditional, tall, upright coachwork, very stately, but fresh & cheerful in primrose paintwork with tan leather interior, attractive veneers and excellent headlining and carpets. In fact, the car is very fresh and clean throughout, inside and out. The car has some appealing vintage features, such as two-way divided windscreen, a porthole communication window to the division, a lovely set of instruments, P80 bullseye headlights, Windover patent slimline bumper front and twin bladed quarter bumpers at the rear, a full set of wheel discs (also by Windover) and a very characterful trunk on the rear. We have just completed an engine overhaul, which included new main and big end bearings, new pistons and little ends, timing case bearings, etc, and a clutch overhaul while we were at it, giving the car new lease of life. Correct, attractive and smart, offered newly MoT tested. Chassis No. GXO48 Reg No. GE 8697 Snippets: Rugby Union, Civil Engineer & Football socks / boots The 1st owner of GXO48 was Sir David McCowan (1860/1937) of Park Circus Place, Glasgow who between 1880/84 played international Rugby for Scotland and was capped 10 times, in 1928 he became President of the SRU. Sir McCowan was a senior partner with William Euing & Co, specialists in Marine Insurance. In 1889 David married Gertrude Cargill whose father David Cargill (in 1886) was the founder of Burmah Oil Ltd and who remained as their chairman until his death in 1904. Within a few years GXO48 was with Sir Frederick Llewelyn Palmer (1862/1934) who worked for the civil engineer Sir Alexander Rendel and was seconded to the East Indian Railway Company in the capacity of assistant engineer. Whilst in India Frederick Palmer was responsible for the construction of the Moghalserai Gaya line which took over 4 years to complete & included the Sone Bridge, which at that time was the 2nd longest bridge in the world, it had some 93 spans of 100ft. In 1909 Palmer returned to the UK becoming the chief engineer to the Port of London Authority with work on the Albert Dock & the King George V Dock. During WWI he was consulting engineer to the Air Ministry & his international works included Port Churchill for Hudson Bay River, Montreal Terminal, Haifa Harbour and the new Zambesi Bridge. In 1907 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire & in 1930 Commander of the Order of St Michael & St George for his contributions to engineering. His home, Crowhurst Place, was previously home to Consuelo Vanderbilt, 9th Duchess of Marlborough after her separation & later divorce from the 9th Duke.

About us:
The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.

We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.

We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and we now carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are nine of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.

Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more.
