Description

Job Title: Clerk of Works

Contract: 6-months minimum

Location: Southampton - Office/site based full time initially

Hourly Rate: Circa GBP30 per hour DOE

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to support the delivery of major refurbishment and new build construction projects across a varied public sector property portfolio. The role will focus on quality assurance, compliance and site monitoring, ensuring construction works are delivered in line with contract documentation, statutory requirements and professional standards.

This is a site focused role requiring a strong construction background and the confidence to challenge poor workmanship, manage risk and ensure high standards are achieved throughout project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor construction works on site to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings and contract requirements

Carry out regular inspections of contractor performance and workmanship

Maintain accurate site records and produce clear, timely inspection and progress reports

Support project control and contract management processes through effective site feedback

Identify, escalate and manage construction risks, taking action to eliminate or reduce impact

Liaise closely with project managers, contract administrators and cost managers

Undertake health and safety monitoring and report any non-compliance

Requirements

Professional membership of the Institute of Clerk of Works, or equivalent experience

HND in Construction, Surveying or a related discipline, or substantial trade based construction experience with site inspection responsibility

Strong practical knowledge of construction methods and quality standards

Experience working on refurbishment and or new build projects

Full UK driving licence

Chartered membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CIOB - Desirable

Experience working within a public sector or similarly regulated environment
