One of Manchester's leading university research departments is seeking an experienced Recruitment and Resource Manager to support its continued growth and delivery of high-quality research.
This is a varied and influential role with responsibility for coordinating recruitment, workforce planning and resource allocation across a busy academic environment. Working closely with research leaders, principal investigators and professional services teams, you will help ensure that projects have the people, skills and capacity needed to succeed.
The roleYou will oversee recruitment activity from initial workforce planning through to appointment and onboarding. You will also monitor staffing requirements across multiple research projects, identify resource gaps and help managers make effective use of available capacity.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing recruitment campaigns for academic, research, technical and professional services roles.Advising hiring managers on recruitment processes, role design, selection methods and resourcing options.Coordinating vacancy approvals, advertising, shortlisting, interviews, offers and onboarding.Developing workforce and resource plans aligned with project priorities, funding and delivery timescales.Monitoring staffing levels, workloads, vacancies and contract end dates across the department.Producing accurate management information and reports on recruitment and resource requirements.Working with HR, Finance and research support colleagues to ensure recruitment activity is compliant and financially sustainable.Supporting the effective allocation of staff across research programmes and projects.Identifying opportunities to improve recruitment, onboarding and workforce-planning processes.Promoting inclusive recruitment practices and an excellent candidate experience.About youYou will be an organised and confident recruitment or resource-management professional who can build effective relationships with senior stakeholders and manage competing priorities.
You should be able to demonstrate:
Substantial experience in recruitment, resourcing, workforce planning or a related field.Experience managing end-to-end recruitment campaigns in a complex organisation.Strong stakeholder-management and influencing skills.Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving abilities.Confidence working with workforce data, budgets and management information.A sound understanding of fair, inclusive and legally compliant recruitment practices.Strong written and verbal communication skills.The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.Experience within higher education, research, the public sector or another regulated environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
