AQUILEGIA 2239 pink & yellow long-spur SEEDS. From the 'Very Special Seed' collection from Touchwood

Hi, I'm Carrie Thomas of Touchwood, and I am crazy about plants and gardening. I grow many special, unusual and rare plants and will share seeds of some here as part of my 'Very Special Seeds' collection.

I do not think anyone else can offer such a good range of these wonderful plants. I have bred Aquilegias, granny's bonnets, columbines for many many years now and can offer you seed from some outstanding plants. Aquilegias are stalwart cottage garden favourites and can flower for you year after year.

This is one of the hybrids from American long-spurred flowers. Much larger flowers than our native granny's bonnet, these dramatic flowers also offer a greater range of colours, brighter reds, blues and as here orange. And whereas UK bicoloured aquilegias only offer white as the second colour, American ones bring in yellow... and so offer a whole new aspect in their colour display. This has dark pink colour with the yellow inside, such a good contrast. Flowering height? About 50cms.

Note, you never know what the offspring will be like with aquilegias. The bees have had their fun, and as all my plants are open pollinated, Aquilegias cannot to guaranteed to come true to type, I select seed from the correct seed parent, but do not know what pollen fertilised it. Nevertheless, I've never seen a 'bad' aquilegia! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

My special interest is Aquilegias. I used to have the only 2 National Plant Collections of Aquilegias in the whole of the UK. Until the killer disease Aquilegia Downy Mildew (ADM) devastated them and I lost my business, my passion and even moved house because of it. I am now beginning to rebuild a smaller collection of these special plants. I also have seeds of loads more unusual, rare and cottage garden plants.
