Studio 2025 – Year-End Round-Up ✨

As our Christmas tree fills with students’ handwritten cards and gifts beneath its branches, it’s the perfect time to celebrate a year overflowing with music, growth, and shared achievements.

Exam Highlights

This year we celebrated 10 distinctions across Practical and Performance Grades, reflecting exceptional commitment and musical maturity. Alongside these, 17 students earned Merits, each showing admirable consistency and steady development throughout the year.

Theory Success

Our theory students achieved remarkable milestones:

• Isobel earned 72/75 in ABRSM Grade 5 Theory — a stunning Distinction and one of our highest scores ever.

• Eureka completed the entire Grade 5 Theory syllabus in only five lessons, also earning Distinction.

Both demonstrated extraordinary focus, discipline, and academic musicianship.

Diplomas

Two inspiring young musicians reached major professional milestones:

• Ka-sin — ARSM (Distinction), delivering a performance of refinement, sensitivity, and artistic clarity.

• Ryan — DipLCM Upper Level, demonstrating maturity, technical polish, and stylistic insight.

Their achievements mark significant artistic steps within our studio’s journey.

Competitions

This year brought 10 First Prize winners across a variety of local and international competitions — all performed live in front of audiences. These experiences strengthened confidence, stage presence, and the joy of sharing music in real time. This is truly the power of performance.

Masterclass

We began 2025 with an inspiring masterclass by Dr. Fanny Head, whose insights on artistry, tone, and musical storytelling set a thoughtful and motivating tone for the entire year.

Chopin Week

In October, both our Head of Keyboard and Artist-in-Residence spent a week in Warsaw attending the once-in-five-years 19th Chopin International Piano Competition.

Witnessing Eric Lu’s renewed determination to challenge himself again, alongside hearing many exceptional emerging pianists, offered profound lessons in commitment, artistry, and the lifelong nature of musicianship. These evenings in Poland were truly unforgettable.

Teacher Performances: Beethoven 2

A major highlight was our teachers’ performances of the duo piano version of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 19, presented twice this year — in August and December.

Both performances received wonderfully warm applause, reflecting not only the energy and dialogue of Beethoven 2 but also our belief that teaching and performing enrich one another deeply.

Accompaniment & School Support

In May and December, both teachers supported students’ second instruments — including recorder, cello, and others — and accompanied them in assessments, concerts, and school-related performances.

We also supported students taking GCSE Music, performing as their duo partners in their actual performance exams. This collaborative musicianship remains one of the most meaningful aspects of our studio’s work.

Live Overseas Lessons

October also brought another highlight: super-intensive in-person lessons in Hong Kong and Brisbane for our hybrid online students. For many, it was the first time meeting “online classmates” and teachers face-to-face, turning digital connection into vibrant real-life music-making.

Behind the Scenes

Quietly and without fuss, we also assisted students preparing for music aptitude tests and scholarship auditions at several leading schools, including:

Guildford High School, Wilson’s School, City of London Freemen’s School, Godolphin & Latymer, LEH, Kew House School, Latymer Upper, Frances Holland (Sloane Square) , Ibstock Place School, St Paul’s School, St Paul’s Girls’ School, King’s College School, and Epsom College.

The preparation is often unseen — but the effort, strategy, and musicianship behind it are very real.

Thank you to every student, parent, and supporter for making 2025 a year full of growth, artistry, and joyful music-making.

✨ Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas, a joyful holiday season, and an inspiring musical New Year ahead!
