Large Battle of Waterloo 1815 Hougoumont Military Oil Painting – Signed

Brief Description:

This is a superb and highly detailed large original Vintage Oil on Canvas Military History Painting, dating to circa 1960, depicting the heroic defence of Hougoumont during the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815.

This wonderful historical composition portrays the dramatic aftermath of the fierce fighting at the North Gate of Hougoumont Farm, one of the most famous and strategically important engagements of the Napoleonic Wars.

The scene is beautifully executed, featuring British red-coated soldiers of Wellington's Allied army defending the fortified farmhouse against Napoleon's advancing French forces.

The painting is especially appealing for its attention to the distinctive Napoleonic military uniforms, regimental equipment, architectural details and the dramatic human elements of the battle.

The work is signed by the artist, J. K. Tivey, in the lower-right corner.

It is additionally inscribed 'North Gate Hougoumont' in the lower-left corner, identifying the precise location of the historical scene.

The painting is mounted within an impressive, substantial gilt decorative frame, featuring beautifully ornate raised floral and foliate mouldings that complement the historical subject perfectly.
