'Port of Burma' watercolour painting by Jean Hunter Cowan (1882-1967)
With original labels and auction chalk mark verso (her work has previously sold at Christie's)
Measures 22 x 16 inches in vintage frame. Frame has old water stain but painting appears unaffected.
A truly fascinating and pioneering artist, she was the first Scottish woman to fly solo (1911), an amateur violinist of repute, winner of the ladies gold championship of India (1924), ladies doubles tennis champion of Malaysia (1924), and the founder president of the Woman's Section of the Edinburgh Society of Musicians (1927).
