These units were originally only sold in the USA. They rarely come on sale these days and almost never in the UK.

This is the PQ6 stereo version of the legendary Furman Parametric EQ, one of the most revered analogue EQ units in music history. Furman introduced their outboard parametric equalizers in 1976. In the 80's, these were the go-to choice if you wanted tonal flexibility than available effects units at the time could provide.

Putting a PQ6 in front of a preamp rather than after allows the sound to be shaped in extraordinary and very precise ways, such as boosting very specific frequencies to drive an amps gain stages harder, which was the secret trick for the long list of guitarists that used it. The most famous player connected with it was Dimebag Darrell from Pantera but other users included Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne/Badlands), Warren deMartini (Ratt), Amir Derakh (Rough Cutt/Orgy), George Lynch (Dokken/Lynch Mob), Oz Fox (Stryper) andMichael Sweet (Stryper).

Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead described it as hisfavourite EQ unit. Indeed, he liked it so much that he ordered the first production unit, serial number A00001.

More than anybody, however, the unit is associated with Dimebag Darrell of Pantera and Damageplan, who considered it such an integral part of his rig that he talked Furman into briefly reissuing the mono version of it. In other words, this unit is a piece of heavy metal history and one that is the core of some of the guitar coolest tones in history.

Many guitarists used the mono version, the PQ3. I am selling the PQ6 stereo version, which basically gives you two PQ3 units in one. Each channel can be used and adjusted entirely independently or both used together in stereo. This can be ideal for additional tone sculpting, for instance by adding EQ both before and after a preamp, into an effects loop and also after a power amp or any variety of in/out. Before/after combinations in your chain. The unit has the expected normal wear, but is in perfect condition functionally. This unit was used in a smoke free studio environment for the recording of guitar tracks.

Whilst I’ve described the PQ6 from a guitarists point of view, it obviously also works beautifully in any audio production environment, with any instrument and either in a studio or on a stage.

Google it, do the research and then come back and buy this while it’s still available. A genuinely transformative and iconic piece of musical equipment.

Being a US unit, this runs on US voltage and will need a240-110v step down transformer. These are easily available for around £20/£30and are a genuinely useful bit of kit anyway.
