Cittern
Beccles, Suffolk
£975
Description
This renaissance cittern is based on an instrument in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford by Gasparo de Salo c.1560. It was made by the Renaissance Workshop Company, Bradford. I purchased the almost complete instrument minus the rose which I wanted to make myself. The neck was later scalloped by Paul Baker at Diabolus in Musica. It is currently tuned Dd AaA dd gg bass to treble. The original tuning was BB GgG dd ee although many variants are possible. The Cittern has been used for Tudor and Renaissance minstrelsy and demonstrations and is in a played and very good condition. It comes with a selection of strings and custom case.
