Instead of having the FX filter discharge water through a single outlet/nozzle, this kit spreads the returning filtered water across a long perforated bar.

That gives you:

* More even water circulation throughout the aquarium.
* Fewer dead spots, where water barely moves.
* Better surface agitation and gas exchange when positioned correctly.
* More gentle, evenly distributed flow, which can be useful for planted aquariums and fish that don’t like strong currents.
* Better distribution of nutrients/CO₂ and other dissolved substances around the aquarium.

It doesn’t replace the filter and it doesn’t provide additional filtration media. Think of it as the water-return/outlet system for your existing FX filter.

Size
The spray bar is adjustable/extendable from approximately 64–140 cm (25–55 inches).
So you can configure it as a relatively short bar or use all three sections for a much larger aquarium.
How it is used
There are two main ways to position it.
1. Below the water surface
The holes point water back into the aquarium, producing a gentler, distributed current. This is useful if you don’t want a powerful jet coming from the FX outlet.
2. At/above the water surface
The returning water agitates the surface much more strongly. This promotes gas exchange and oxygenation. Fluval specifically recommends positioning it above the water line when maximum surface agitation/oxygenation is wanted.

It’s suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
The “FRESH OR SALT” marking you can see on your box is therefore genuine product information.
