Description

The image shows a colored pencil drawing of a tree's branches within a circular frame, signed
Nicholas Barnham 1976

40cm x 40cm approx.

Nicholas Barnham's work has been offered at auction multiple times.
He is known to have created paintings of locations such as Aldeburgh Beach in Suffolk and Saunton in Devon.
Nicholas Barnham (1939-2021) was a British Postwar & Contemporary artist whose work is characterized by a strong sense of line. He was known for his paintings and prints of boats, trees, and landscapes, particularly those of East Anglia and the Shetland Islands.
The artwork shown, dated 1976, features a tree as its subject, which is a common theme in his work. Barnham studied painting and stone carving at Norwich School of Art and taught at Cambridge School of Art.

The visual style of the drawing, with its intricate lines and focus on the structure of the tree, is consistent with descriptions of his art. He was known to use linocut and watercolor to create works where the translucent layers of paint contrasted with the robust confidence of his lines. Prince Charles and Princess Diana chose one of his paintings as a wedding gift.

The work is Unframed.
