ANTIQUE BLACK FOREST CARVED BOOKENDS, FACETED BALL, POKERWORK, BRASS TRIM - 1900s FRENCH FOUND ARTS & CRAFTS - REDUCED !

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
One of several items from a vide maison at Nancy in eastern France, this is a charming pair of hand carved Black Forest bookends dating to the early 1900s.
Black Forest carvings are usually thought to originate from the Black Forest of Bavaria, Germany but in fact also come from regions of Alsace, France and Switzerland.
Extremely well carved with faceted wooden balls, pokerwork or pyrography texturing and brass trim decoration they are made from a hardwood, probably oak.
In very good, antique/vintage condition with light wear but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
The wooden surfaces are varnished and sound.
The base and upright are strong and securely jointed.
The balls are all secure with just a little movement to one of the larger ones.
The bases are worn but sound.
No woodworm.
Measure approximately:
14 cm tall,
16 cm long,
8.5 cm wide/deep,
Weigh about 1.2 kg in total.
