Description

A wonderfully characterful example of one of Britain's most important pre-war small cars, this 1937 Morris Eight Saloon combines charming period styling, simple mechanicals and a beautifully preserved sense of occasion.Finished in a handsome deep burgundy with contrasting black wings, running boards and steel wheels, this four-door Morris Eight presents extremely well. Chrome hubcaps, traditional headlamps, slim bumpers and the rear-mounted spare wheel complete the unmistakable 1930s appearance. Under the bonnet sits the Morris Eight's 918cc four-cylinder side-valve petrol engine, coupled to a manual gearbox. The Morris Eight was designed to provide dependable and affordable family transport, and its straightforward engineering remains a major part of its appeal today. Light controls, compact dimensions and modest performance make it an approachable introduction to pre-war classic car ownership. The engine bay retains plenty of period character, right down to the wonderfully evocative Morrisol oil can mounted beneath the bonnet.Open the doors and this Morris becomes even more appealing. The cabin is trimmed in burgundy leather, with matching carpets and door trim. Rather than having been restored to the point of looking new, the leather retains attractive age-related creasing and patina which suits a car approaching its 90th birthday beautifully. The large thin-rimmed steering wheel, simple instrumentation and upright seating position provide a wonderfully authentic 1930s British motoring experience.Introduced in 1935, the Morris Eight became one of Morris Motors' most successful cars of the period. Conceived as an affordable rival to the Austin Seven, it offered greater space and practicality while remaining economical and straightforward to maintain.Today, surviving examples offer something increasingly rare: the opportunity to experience genuine pre-war motoring without moving into the considerably more expensive world of sporting and luxury cars from the same period. This 1937 Morris Eight four-door Saloon is particularly attractive because it retains so much of that character. The exterior is smart and highly presentable, while the interior possesses the sort of genuine patina that simply cannot be recreated. It isn't a car for rushing anywhere. A Sunday morning drive, a trip to the village pub or simply arriving at a local classic-car gathering becomes an event in itself. For somebody searching for a 1937 Morris Eight for sale in the UK, an affordable pre-war British classic car, or simply a charming 1930s saloon to enjoy and preserve, this is a lovely example deserving of its next custodian. Why not book a viewing, Our coffee pot is always hot!.
