Rare Antique Persian Tabriz Rug – Approx. 150 Years Old
Offered for sale is a beautiful and exceptionally characterful antique hand-knotted Persian rug from the Tabriz region of Iran, dating to approximately the late 19th century (c. 1875).
Size: approx. 190 x 315 cm (6'3" x 10'4")
The rug features an impressive classical Tabriz design with a large central medallion, an elaborate floral field and richly decorated multiple borders. The warm ivory/golden ground is complemented by deep reds, blues, greens and softer naturally aged tones, giving the rug the unmistakable appearance and character of a genuinely old Persian carpet.
This is not a modern reproduction. The reverse, knotting, construction and overall ageing are clearly visible in the photographs.
At approximately 150 years old, the rug naturally shows considerable signs of age and use. There are areas of heavy pile wear and some damage, including a hole, all of which are clearly shown in the photographs. I have deliberately photographed the rug in detail so that its condition can be assessed honestly. Despite its age and wear, the design remains remarkably striking and the rug has tremendous decorative presence.
Antique Tabriz carpets of this age are increasingly difficult to find, particularly large-format examples retaining so much of their original design and historic character.
A wonderful piece for a collector, antique Persian rug enthusiast, interior designer or period property, either to preserve in its current authentic condition or to have professionally conserved/restored.
