Mechanical Design Engineer (L4)

JOB LOCATION: Stevenage / Bristol (Stevenage Preferred)

SECURITY: SC - Potential BPSS start

DURATION: 6+ Months Likely to extend

TYPE: Contract

WORK PATTERN: Onsite / 4 days a week on site; 1 remote (flexible over start/finish time)

PAY RATE: £40 - £ 50 /hr (Umbrella Inside IR35)

Essential QUALIFICATIONS

Degree, HND/HNC could help; not mandatory

TARGET INDUSTRIES AND COMPANIES. Is Defence a must?

If not what industries can be considered

Preferable for Def/Aero; if hitting the skills on JD, open to others; automotive, oil & gas etc.

Overview of Department:

An opportunity to become part of Europe’s No. 1 Missile Systems Designer, as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will work closely with other functional teams, to develop products to meet our customer’s needs. Within this role you will have the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research of novel mechanical technologies to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Responsibilities:

* Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.

* Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.

* Support to functional & environmental testing and trials.

* Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.

* Planning and reporting on own day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.

* Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexity.

Skillset / Experience Required:

* Experience using Creo 3D design tool

* Knowledge of several of the following:

* Manufacturing processes

* Tolerance studies

* Environmental test

* Mass property calculations

* Material selection

* FMEA

* Design for Manufacture/Assembly

* Environmental Gasket Sealing

* Tooling/fixtures design

* Structural design

* Defence Standards

* Review processes

* Product Lifecycles

* Industrial validation

* An ability to work as part of a multifunctional engineering team and be able to partake in or host design reviews. An appreciation of other engineering areas/domains
