We are currently seeking a skilled Prototype Machinist to support our confidential high–performance automotive client, offered on a contract basis, inn Surrey. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative vehicle technologies within a fast–paced, world–class engineering environment.

Role Overview

You will play a key role in supporting vehicle development, prototype build, and test activities, delivering high–quality machined components to meet demanding project timelines. Working closely with build and development teams, you will contribute to the creation of prototype vehicles, rigs, and test structures.

Key Responsibilities

Execute precision machining operations to a high standard using both CNC and manual mills and lathes

Support vehicle development build teams with high–quality prototype parts

Manufacture components for prototype vehicles, bucks, and test rigs

Effectively manage multiple work requests and competing deadlines

Maintain and care for workshop machinery and equipment

Ensure full compliance with health & safety standards

Provide flexibility with working hours, including overtime/weekends where required

Skills & Experience

Proven experience machining one–off and small batch components

Strong capability across CNC and manual machining (milling & turning)

Ability to interpret 2D engineering drawings and specifications

Experience in self–inspection and quality checks of machined parts

Competent IT user, ideally with exposure to CAD systems (e.g. CATIA for drawing review)

Background in an engineering apprenticeship or similar formal training

Desirable:

Understanding of vehicle systems and architecture

Experience working with modern metallics and composite materials, ideally within high–performance automotive or aerospace environments
