Summary

The Quality and Development Engineer will report into the Quality and Development Manager, ensuring that all ropes and cords manufactured at English Braids meet internal and customer specifications.

The role will be a mixture of office–based administrative tasks and practical work on the factory floor. This role is critical in maintaining product quality, leading and supporting audits, conducting quality control checks, and driving continuous improvement.

Additionally, the role contributes to the development of new products and specifications, ensuring that innovation aligns with quality standards and customer expectations.

The Quality and Development Engineer will be required to act as a leader and mentor to the production team in matters of engineering and quality and provide direct support to production staff when unusual problems are experienced. In addition, the role will ideally support an apprentice and would also support work experience within the Quality/Technical team.

Responsibilities of a Quality and Development Engineer:

Conduct quality control inspections and testing of ropes and cords to ensure compliance with specifications and standards. Lead and support internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and follow–up actions. Assist in the development of new products, including drafting specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and raising sample requests. Investigate quality issues and customer complaints, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. Collaborate with production teams to ensure quality procedures are followed and documented. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and development activities. Provide technical feedback and support to customers regarding product performance and quality. Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing and development processes. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal policies. Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve quality–related issues and support product development.

Requirements to be successful as a Quality and Development Engineer:

BSc/BEng/HND in Engineering or STEM subject Practical experience of mechanical engineering. Practical/working knowledge of electrical engineering. Practical/working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in the UK/EU. Microsoft Office / Excel / Databases and Spreadsheets (basic). Fluent in the English language. Clear and concise verbal and written communications to all areas of the business. Able to foster a good working relationship across all areas of the business. Patient communicator, able to explain problems, take advice and build engagement in their ideas from the workforce. Physically fit and able to work on their feet for significant portions of the day and to help setup and run tensile testing machines. Able to do occasional overtime when required. Travel within UK and overseas when required.

Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week, on–site 5 days per week, free on–site parking available

Commutable from Bromyard, Droitwich Spa, Evesham, Hereford, Ledbury, Malvern, Pershore, Tewkesbury, Worcester.
