Major Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a well–established and growing business within the food and agricultural sector to recruit an experienced Shunter Driver for their busy Yard team based in Rochester, Kent.
This is an excellent opportunity for a capable, reliable and safety–conscious Shunter Driver to join a successful operation and play a vital role in keeping transport, warehouse and production activities running efficiently.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers and vehicles around the yard, ensuring trailers are positioned correctly and available where and when they are required.
The Role:
As a Shunter Driver, you will be responsible for manoeuvring and positioning trailers safely across the yard and supporting the wider transport and warehouse operation.
Duties will include:
Safely manoeuvring and parking vehicles and trailers within the yardPositioning trailers at loading bays to support inbound and outbound operationsCarrying out daily vehicle and trailer safety checksReporting defects in line with Vehicle Off Road (VOR) proceduresCompleting trailer movements safely and efficiently according to the daily operational planCoupling and uncoupling trailers safely when requiredMaintaining accurate records of trailer and vehicle movementsCommunicating effectively with the Yard, Transport, Dispatch and Production teamsSupporting other yard activities when required, including Gatehouse, Banksman or Forklift duties where trainedKeeping the yard clean, organised and safeFollowing all company Health & Safety, Food Safety, Hygiene and site procedures at all times
Working Hours:
45 hours per week minimumUp to 60 hours per week maximum, across any 5 daysWorking 5 days per week, including weekends on a rota basisTypical start times are between 07:00am and 07:30pm, finish time is dependent on work loadFinish times are variable depending on workload and operational requirementsApproximately 2 weeks per year will require a 14:00 – 00:00 shiftFlexibility is essential to meet business requirementsOvertime paid after 45 hours 20.15
Salary & Benefits:
Pay:
16.12 per hour basic rate 20.15 per hour overtime rate after 45 hours (Time + 25%)Minimum 45 hours per weekUp to 60 hours available across any 5 days, subject to operational requirementsOpportunities for additional overtime during peak periodsPermanent employment opportunity
Requirements:
Essential
Previous shunting experience is essentialPrevious experience manoeuvring and positioning trailers within a busy yardStrong understanding of health and safety proceduresGood communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructionsReliable, punctual and safety–consciousFlexible approach to working hoursAbility to work effectively as part of a busy team
Desirable
Valid HGV/LGV Class 1 (C+E) LicencePrevious experience within a transport, warehouse or logistics environmentExperience working within a packhouse, manufacturing, agricultural or food production environmentBanksman or Forklift experienceExperience using handheld scanning equipment
