Road Freight Operations Manager Location: Southall Salary: GBP45K Job Type: Full–Time, Permanent

Our client, a leading UK and European road freight operator, is seeking an experienced Road Freight Operations Manager to lead and grow their transport operations. This role combines operational leadership with commercial strategy, offering an excellent opportunity for a driven logistics professional to make a real impact.

The Role:

Oversee end–to–end road freight operations including import, export, full loads, part loads, and groupage services Ensure compliance with UK and international road transport regulations and customs procedures Monitor and analyse KPIs to enhance service quality, productivity, and cost efficiency Manage operational problem–solving to ensure seamless delivery and customer satisfaction Work with the sales team to develop tailored logistics solutions and support customer acquisition Prepare and manage commercial budgets, forecasts, and financial reports Identify new revenue opportunities and contribute to long–term business development Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and strategic partnerships with clients and suppliers Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and overseas agents Conduct regular business reviews and manage escalations professionally Lead and develop teams across freight forwarding, planning, and administration Deliver coaching, training, and monthly one–on–ones to enhance team capability and engagement Develop long–term operational and commercial strategies, including route optimisation and cost–saving initiatives Evaluate market trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions Ensure compliance with legal, safety, environmental, and quality standards Produce accurate operational, commercial, and financial reports for senior management Oversee audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement projects What We're Looking For:

Proven experience in road freight operations management (UK & European) Strong commercial acumen with experience managing P&L, pricing, and margin optimisation Knowledge of customs requirements, transport legislation, and international logistics Strong leadership and team development skills Proficiency in logistics systems, Cargo Wise, and Microsoft Office Excellent negotiation, analytical, problem–solving, and communication skills This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially–minded logistics leader to take ownership of a growing operation and drive both service excellence and business growth.
