ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE | RTX 3080 16GB Vram | Ryzen 9 | 32GB RAM | Dual 4K

Description

Selling my ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551QS as I simply don't use it enough anymore. I recently built a desktop PC for most of my work and use a MacBook Pro day-to-day, so this laptop has been sitting unused more than I'd like.

If you have seen this AD before, I have it up on ebay.

This is an extremely powerful laptop and has been used for gaming, photo editing, CAD, general productivity and engineering work. It is still in use and has been tested extensively rather than simply being switched on and listed.

Specifications
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX – 8 Cores / 16 Threads

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU – 16GB VRAM

RAM: 32GB DDR4

Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD

Main Display: 15.6" 4K UHD – 3840 × 2160

Secondary Display: 14.1" ScreenPad Plus Touchscreen – 3840 × 1100

Operating System: Windows 11 Home

Dual-Screen Setup
The dual-screen design is genuinely useful once you get used to it.

I have used the laptop for gaming, CAD, engineering work and particularly photo editing. For example, I would keep Lightroom tools, YouTube, Discord, Spotify or reference material on the lower ScreenPad Plus while keeping the main workspace on the 4K display.

It makes the laptop particularly useful as a portable workstation while still having the performance needed for gaming.

Cooling / Thermal Maintenance
For transparency, the laptop's original liquid-metal thermal interface has been removed and replaced with PTM7950.

This was done as a preventative/maintenance measure rather than because of a hardware failure. The laptop has subsequently been tested extensively, including gaming and benchmark testing.

Interestingly, the laptop actually performed better after the change, with improved thermal behaviour and a better result in 3DMark testing compared with its previous configuration.

The laptop has been used and tested with a variety of workloads, including:

Gaming

3DMark benchmarking

CAD / SolidWorks

General productivity

Photo editing

GPU-intensive workloads

It remains fully usable and has been in active use right up until being listed.

Battery / Power-Mode Note
If you don't use Asus Armoury Crate , you will be completely fine, I played games and done high intensity work without that horrendous Asus Software (Armoury Crate) and had no problem with or without the charger. If you are dead set on using it just read the rest of this section.

There is one software-related quirk (common for pretty much every Asus product) that I want to be completely upfront about.

When running on battery, I recommend keeping ASUS Armoury Crate set to Performance mode. Because Quiet mode uses aggressive Windows power-saving settings, causing laptop freezes while on battery.

This is easily avoided by selecting Performance mode in Armoury Crate, and the laptop operates normally with this setting. I have tested the machine extensively and am including this information so the buyer knows exactly what to expect.

The ASUS software reports the battery condition as Good, as shown in the listing photos.

Ideal For

🤖 AI / machine-learning workloads where 16GB of VRAM is particularly useful

The 16GB VRAM RTX 3080 is especially valuable for workloads that require more VRAM, and is something that many newer laptops in this price range still don't offer.

Condition
Overall, the laptop is in good used condition and has been well looked after.

There are a few minor cosmetic marks, all of which are shown in the photos:

A very small dent

A small scratch on the top lid

The small mark on the main display is hardly visible and does not affect the viewing experience or functionality.

I have included photos of the cosmetic marks so there are no surprises for the buyer.

Both displays, touchscreen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers, webcam, ports, Wi-Fi and other major functions have been tested and are working.

What's Included
ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551QS

Original 280W ASUS charger

Final Notes
This is still an incredibly capable high-end laptop, combining a Ryzen 9 5900HX, RTX 3080 16GB, 32GB RAM and dual 4K displays.

It is particularly well suited to someone who wants a machine that can handle gaming, creative work, CAD, engineering software and demanding GPU workloads without needing to carry around a separate monitor.

I've tried to be as transparent as possible about the laptop's condition, thermal maintenance and the battery/power-mode quirk. The laptop has been extensively tested and remains in use, so it isn't being sold as an untested or faulty machine.

Offers are welcome.

I am happy to show the device is working before you commit to buy it, I will load stress test software's for you to see how well the laptop runs.

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or would like additional photos.
