Description
old metal kitchen or fireside utensil, most likely a long-handled strainer, skimmer, or infuser-type implement.
It has:
A long flat iron handle, with a curled hanging loop at the end.
A round, shallow cylindrical head.
A perforated top plate with many small holes.
A lower cup or bowl section, visible in the first photograph, which looks brass or copper-coloured inside.
Considerable surface corrosion, rusting and tarnishing, especially on the handle and perforated lid.
A handmade or blacksmith-made look, rather than a modern manufactured finish.
Possible uses include skimming food from hot liquid, holding spices or tea/herbs in a pot, or some form of hearth/kitchen strainer. The perforated lidded cup suggests it may have been used to immerse something in liquid while allowing water or steam to pass through.
It looks decorative/collectable rather than practically usable in its present state. I would not use it for food unless professionally cleaned and confirmed safe, because of rust, possible old solder, and unknown metal composition.
