Description
This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Over £70,000 spent on the car. One of the finest examples with good paperwork. As a product of the prestigious Jaguar marque, the XJS is a celebrated grand tourer known for its elegant aesthetics and powerful performance capabilities. Introduced initially in 1975 as a successor to the iconic Jaguar E-Type, the XJS underwent numerous refinements throughout its production lifespan, culminating in the impressive 6.0 litre V12 convertible of the early 1990s. By 1993, the XJS had matured into a sophisticated and desirable vehicle, embodying a blend of classic style and modern engineering. The highlight of the 1993 model was its 6.0 litre V12 engine, an upgrade from the earlier 5.3 litre V12s. This powerplant was a technical marvel of its time, boasting an output of approximately 305bhp and 336 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, the V12 provided smooth yet potent acceleration, allowing the car to reach a top speed of around 155mph and achieve a 0-60mph time of approximately 6.6 seconds. The engine's refinement and power delivery made it an ideal match for the XJSs grand touring ethos, offering a blend of grace and performance. This rather lovely Silver Frost XJS was originally supplied into the Japanese market via an official Jaguar dealer in Kabush and registered by them in September 1993. Unusually there is a stamped service book and very importantly a 'Jevic Odometer Certificate' (Japanese Export Vehicle Inspection Centre) verifying the mileage when it left Japan in June 2017 at just 40,628km (25,245 miles). The accompanying UK Jaguar Heritage Certificate on file, confirms all the car's other factory criteria apart from the interior, which was completely retrimmed in premium burgundy leather with stitching before it came to the UK.Dispatched by the then first UK keeper to Jaguar specialist Clarks for a thorough check and service (invoice on file), it was subsequently sold in 2020 to its second keeper who immediately dispatched it to Jaguar supremo, Chris Knowles at KWE Ltd for a thorough evaluation. Suffice to say, no 'stone was left unturned', as there are invoices on file for a remarkable £78,706 of reconditioning and upgrades. Evidently, all is detailed via an excel spreadsheet showing all works and the impressively long logged hours. In short, major works consisted of the following KWE upgrades, KWE V12 intensive service and cooling system renewal, KWE complete suspension, brakes and steering renewal, E10 compatible engine management system, custom exhaust with tubular headers. As you would expect, the car performs and drives beautifully with the added benefit of a 21st century engine management system which was always its Achilles heel! This is probably the best prepared and engineered XJS on the market today and now available at a modest price compared to its overall cost. Consigned by James Good
