1993 ISUZU BIGHORN 3.1 TD LOTUS EDITION AUTO Incredibly rare, wonderfully unusual and about as 1990s Japanese as it gets. As we all know, proper 90s cars are making a huge comeback, and its often the unusual stuff that gets the most attention. Youre certainly not going to see many of these coming the other way. This is a 1993 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1 Turbo Diesel Automatic - Lotus Edition. The Bighorn was essentially the Japanese-market version of the Isuzu Trooper, but the Lotus Edition is the one to have.Isuzu had a relationship with Lotus during this period, with Lotus engineering input used to improve the Bighorns suspension and handling. Hence the rather unlikely but brilliant combination of a big Japanese 4x4 wearing "Handling by Lotus" badging. Its exactly the sort of strange collaboration that made Japanese cars of this era so interesting. Under the bonnet is Isuzus 3.1-litre turbo-diesel, coupled to an automatic gearbox and proper four-wheel-drive running gear. These were built as genuine, tough off-roaders rather than the softer SUVs were accustomed to today. The odometer is showing 158,000 km - approximately 98,000 miles. The original speedometer stopped working a few years ago and, as it was a Japanese-market KM unit anyway, the previous owner fitted a digital GPS speedometer in its place. Therefore, the displayed odometer reading should not be taken as a warranted total mileage. Inside, it is the absolute epitome of late-80s/early-90s Japanese design: shiny brown plastics, buttons everywhere and wonderfully comfortable cloth seats. Better still, the interior has survived remarkably well and is in excellent condition throughout. This particular Bighorn has been mechanic-owned for the last 21 years, which is always reassuring with something of this age. Recent work and specification includes: * Cambelt replaced earlier this summer * Rear crossmember recently replaced * Lanoguard treatment carried out * Digital GPS speedometer * Side steps * Bull bar * Spotlights * Nearly-new chunky off-road tyres, which give it exactly the stance a Bighorn should have Its not trying to be a Range Rover, Defender or Land Cruiser - and that is precisely why I like it.
