Unusual original St. Paul Saints commemorative mug celebrating the club’s first decade, 1993–2002, with a “Borders” reference to pioneering pitcher Ila Borders.

Borders joined the Saints in 1997 and became the first woman in the modern era to pitch in a regular-season men’s professional baseball game, making her an important figure in baseball history.

The Saints began playing independent professional baseball in 1993, and the 1993–2002 design commemorates their first ten seasons. During this period the club won Northern League championships in 1993, 1995 and 1996.

A particularly interesting piece for a St. Paul Saints, independent baseball or Ila Borders collection, and much more specific than a standard team souvenir mug.

Provenance: Personally obtained by me when I visited the St. Paul Saints in 2003. I attended St. Paul Saints v Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Wednesday 18 June 2003 at 7:05 PM and still retain my original ticket from the game.
