SCALE MODEL BUS Stockport Corporation 1951 LEYLAND PD2 (Open Top)
Warrington, Cheshire
£16
Description
Delivered in 1951 as part of the tram replacement batch, Fleet Number 295 was not meant to be open topped.
The actual vehicle represented gave totally reliable service to the people of the town but, towards the end of its life, it had an unfortunate encounter with the infamous semi-circular archway beneath Wellington Bridge in the town centre, which has caused damage to numerous vehicles over the years.
The town’s transport department found meaningful employment for it, though, and when not being used for overhead tree branch cutting on routes where vehicles were susceptible to damage, it also earned its keep as a driver training vehicle.
295 is alive and well and in the custody of the Greater Manchester Transport Society and has been used to carry victorious football teams as well as in the promotion of various events.
This 1:76mm scale model is in perfect condition with just a slight blemish on the advertisement on its off-side for the publishers of the magazines alluded to.
The fact that the front route number does not correspond with the destination display (which itself is incorrectly set between two displays), is down to the fact that, when the real vehicle was photographed at the Museum of Transport prior to the model being produced, no one had noticed the error. This just adds to its curiosity value!
The same LIMITED EDITION model is on sale on the internet for £25.95, plus postage.
It comes plain boxed with carefully packaged and RECEIPTED postage of just £3.69
