Description
Mahogany and brass ships wheel made by MacTaggart Scott & Co., Edinburgh, probably in the 1940's. An 8 spoke steering wheel with inlaid brass ring, and a solid brass center hub. Also, presents the so-named "king pin" on one spoke, a feature of this maker, wich, when upright, indicates that the rudder is amidships.
An authentic piece of the highest quality, could be the proud of any naval collector, or evn a military collector if possible to find its history. It has a serial no.(?) ST5130 stamped on brass, and initials "EAW" scratched on wood.
It's a large and heavy steering wheel, just over 3 ft diameter, and weights over 10 kilos.
