The 1977 European Cup Final was a landmark in Liverpool FC’s history:
Played in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, Liverpool defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 3–1, securing their first ever European Cup.
Goals came from Terry McDermott, Tommy Smith, and Phil Neal.
This victory marked the beginning of Liverpool’s dominance in European football, with further European Cup wins following in 1978, 1981, and 1984.
The match also crowned an incredible season for Liverpool, who had already secured the First Division title and narrowly lost the FA Cup final – coming within reach of a historic treble.
The programme design itself, with bold typography and the iconic European Cup trophy, has become a recognisable piece of footballing artwork – instantly evoking the glory of Liverpool’s first steps onto the European stage.
