African Tribal Art Floor Standing Mask from 60s 70s
Freestanding Voodoo-Esque Carving 960mm high x 400mm wide overall across the shoulders.
250mm wide at main mask. Fairly baroque carving painted brown, some of which has flaked off over the years. My understanding is that much of this artwork was fashioned from available materials at the village level and display a very rough, rustic and quite intimidating feel.
I think this item meets those qualities. Very striking against a white or neutral background.
The devil’s head form at the top of the mask over capping the main mask is sometimes associated with Voodoo art forms.
Great item for a collector. Bought in a market in London many years ago – very retro feel. Could benefit from some TLC.
