Measurements should not be considered absolutely precise!
Some marks and wear consistent with age and use, but no obvious structural damage or signs of repair to the exterior. It is old and has had a life however, so it isn’t perfect. Overall condition is as shown in photos.
Would look lovely paired with a mantle shelf of contrasting material. There are slots present to assist in securely fixing a shelf in situ.
The firebricks are held in place at the back by iron straps. The top strap is split (see photo) but the bricks are still held firmly in place and don’t move. These bricks could be permanently removed if desired.
During renovation, we made a steel hood to assist with blocking the chimney if it is not intended to surround a real fire. This sits on top of the fire bricks at the back and would benefit from being cemented in place with black fire cement once in situ.
There are two fixing loops under where the mantle shelf will be to aid attachment in situ.
This is an exceptionally heavy item.
Collection in person from Macclesfield.
