Teaching Assistant Behaviour Specialist

Location: Primary Alternative Provision North & West Leeds Area

Start Date: January (Temporary to Permanent)

Contract: Temp to perm

Pay: GBP12.07 GBP14.43 per hour (AWR compliant)

We are recruiting a Behaviour Specialist Teaching Assistant to support primary–aged pupils who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. This role will involve supporting pupils either 1:1 or in small groups, helping them to regulate, engage positively with learning, and reintegrate successfully within an educational setting. Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group SEMH/behaviour interventions

• Support emotional regulation, de–escalation and restorative approaches

• Build positive, trusting relationships to improve pupil engagement

• Deliver tailored behaviour strategies and nurture–based support

• Work alongside teachers and support teams to maintain inclusive practice

• Record behaviour and progress, contributing to plans and reviews

• Promote a safe, calm and structured environment for learning

Person Specification

Essential:

• Experience supporting SEMH needs or challenging behaviour in a primary setting

• Strong behaviour management, resilience and de–escalation skills

• Confident working 1:1 and leading small–group activities

• A reflective, child–centred approach and good communication skills

• Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply

Desirable:

• Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent

• Team Teach / MAPA / Trauma–informed training

• Experience working within alternative or behaviour provision
