Gain Monster! - Handwired Valve Guitar Amp - Single Ended KT66 in a 1x12 Peavey Cab
Ryton, Tyne and Wear
£120
Description
This is a unique, hand-wired valve amp with a single KT66 output valve, a 5Y3 rectifier valve and a 12AX7 pre-amp valve.
It has a sparkling clean sound, but really excels at punchy gain tones. It has three switches that boost/cut the gain, headroom and treble by switching in additional capacitors or positive feedback loop, so there are eight different voices to switch between as well a a volume and a tone control.
Fantastic AC/DC like sounds and the treble boost switch changes the gain tone between "Malcolm" and "Angus". Also great for punk. If you want that aggressive. spanking overdrive tone, this little thing dishes it out in spades. Allegedly 5watts but sounds much louder than any 5w I have played. KT66 valves can put out much more than that.
I have hand-built the amp into the cab and chassis of a Peavey Triumph 112. The Triumph was a 4x 6L6 120w amp, so the cab is built to take some punishment! Cosmetically the cab is a little scratty in places, but completely sound.
The speaker is a 12 inch Wharfedale that Vox use in modern AC30s. It is said to emulate a Greenback.
It has got the output transformer from a THD Picovalve amp that can use different power valves - so the output valve can be changed to a 6L6, EL34 or 6V6. Pretty simple circuit and loads of space in the chassis for modding, if you are suitably qualified and safe (lethal voltages are involved).
It's on casters to help portability. The effects pedals visible in one of the photos are not included in the sale.
