Fender Japan 40th Anniversary Stratocaster ST62-65AS

Description

This is a rather nice guitar that was released by Fender Japan back in 1994 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Strat.
It’s got the usual ST62 specs of a 7.25 board on an oval neck, but in certain colours (this one being Candy Apple Red) came with a matching headstock and the back of the neck finished with dreaded Foto Flame.
If you’re not familiar with Foto Flame, it was basically a printed scan of a highly flamed maple (such as what you’d find on a Custom Shop guitar). A common problem being as the wood shifts with environmental influences and age the photo transfer does not, resulting in cracking and flaking.
When this one arrived with me the Foto Flame was barely hanging on (swipe to the end for gnarly pics), so it was expertly stripped off and refinished by Simon at 81 Guitar Works, complete with replacement serial decal. There is some really beautiful natural figuring that was hiding under the transfer, which has been brought to life with a light honey tint.

In regards to the body construction, it’s alder, equipped with Fender US ST Vintage pickups. That rosewood board is super dark too, almost ebony. There’s a few small marks here and there, but overall it’s in beautiful shape. It plays superbly thanks to a setup, and is ready to go.
