1970s Very Rare Yamaha FG700 (solid rosewood back)

Yamaha FG700 (1970s, made in Japan, solid rosewood back) £1100 ono

A real rarity in the Yamaha FG world, this FG700 has that D-28 depth but with the Yamaha tone: the whole body vibrates when played. It hurts to sell but needs must.

Unlike the other FGs of this period, the guitar has a solid Ezo spruce top. What marks it out as special is solid rosewood back, along with a UK CITES certificate.

The instrument has plenty of dings and scratches as would be expected in a well-played guitar, and the rosette has been intricately decorated by a previous owner, adding to the funk. The action is good. Two cracks on the back have been properly repaired with cleats by a local luthier and have been stable during my two-year ownership.

Comes with an old hard case which is serviceable but fairly beaten up. Selling to pretend I don’t suffer from guitar acquisition syndrome, but will consider a swop or p/x on an interesting OM or 000 style. I have priced it somewhere between any FG500 and FG1000 I can find a price for.
